The Nichols Blog bio picture

Welcome to the Nichols' Blog!

Hi and thank you for dropping by! We're Jennifer and CJ Nichols and this is where we share our latest work. From weddings, brides, and engagements to our own fun adventures with our family, this is where you'll find it all!

Gerrie + Ryan {engaged}

We weren’t sure if the rain would hold off for Gerrie and Ryan’s shoot, but we decided to go for it! We got a little wet, but it was definitely worth it and we came away with some great rainy-day shots!

April 11, 2012 - 8:49 pm mike - The frame with their heads in the rearview mirror...well done : D

April 12, 2012 - 8:43 am Mary The Simplifiers - Super adorable couple! Great shots, especially the ones in the antique truck...who is their wedding planner? We'd love to work with them...my kinda couple!

April 14, 2012 - 7:11 pm Kristin - Beautifully done. The colors in the Zilker shots are fantastic.

Stacy + Adam {married}

I have to admit that we were a little nervous going into this one! The beautiful bride, Stacy, is a talented photographer here in Austin. Not only that, but most of her bridesmaids are also photographers. So while we were beyond flattered that she chose us to document her big day, I felt that we reeeeally needed to deliver on this one! Luckily, Stacy is one of the coolest girls around. I’ve known Stacy through our photographer community here in Austin for a few years, but after being a part of her wedding day, I really got to see what an amazing person she is. She’s one of the most authentic people around, she’s kind, hilarious, and full of life. So, it’s easy to see why Adam fell for her. And if you spend just a few moments with Stacy and Adam, you can instantly see that they’re absolutely perfect for each other….

Congrats Stacy and Adam!! Thank you SO much for including us in your magical day! XOXO

the stars at night are big and bright…

We just returned from an awesome road trip out to West Texas, one of our favorite places to spend time. There’s something special about the quiet landscape that keeps bringing us back. On this trip, we visited Marfa, where we stayed at the El Cosmico. If you’re headed out that way, I highly recommend staying in one of their renovated vintage trailers, or even a teepee! It’s owned by Austin’s Liz Lambert, of Hotel San Jose and Jo’s Coffee fame. Such a unique place!

Next stop was the Indian Lodge, which was built in the 1930′s by the Civilian Conservation Corp and is nestled in the Davis Mountains. It’s only 20 minutes from Marfa, 30 minutes from Balmorhea-a glorious spring-fed swimming pool, and 20 minutes from the McDonald Observatory, where they host “star parties,” with constellation and telescope viewing. I highly recommend it!

Everyone getting ready for the star party to begin. They have red lights everywhere so as not to affect star viewing. This is one of the darkest observatories in the U.S., so the stars are absolutely AMAZING from here.

Our last stop was in Marathon, TX where we stayed at the Gage Hotel, an historic hotel 1-hour from Big Bend National Park. The hotel has lush courtyards, a heated pool that the kids love, and an amazing restaurant and bar. But be forewarned, there’s not much else going on in Marathon. There’s literally one short main street with about 3 restaurants, a bookstore, an art gallery, annnnd that’s about it! It’s very charming.

We hit up Marathon Coffee for a big, delicious breakfast and small town hospitality.

We celebrated Georgia’s 2nd birthday while we were there. When we were singing to her, she didn’t quite know what was going on, but she definitely enjoyed her cupcake and even shared it with her sis. Such sweeties.

We all had a blast and can’t wait to go back! Hope you all had a fun spring break, too!

March 23, 2012 - 9:14 am Tali - DYING! I'm so jealous of your awesome trips! We're tentatively planning on making a trip out there in October. I've been dying to sleep in a teepee or yurt at El Cosmico! I'll be sure to get some tips from you prior to our trip :) GORGEOUS pics!
